It's football season and I know quite a few spouses who cheer for opposing teams. I'm yelling We Dem Boys all day, while my husband claims Who Dat. A little competition can be fun especially when bragging rights are concerned.
Football games are just for entertainment. There's nothing wrong with liking a team that's different from your spouse; however, regarding marriage, the rules are a bit different. God intended marriage to be two people coming together as one. To leave your parents and cleave to your spouse. To become one flesh and operate as a unit.
That doesn't mean that you will agree on everything. God made us all unique; nevertheless, both husband and wife should be on the same page when it comes to lining up their lives according to God’s will. Matthew 12: 25-26 says, "Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined, and every city or household divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then can his kingdom stand?"
This logic applies to any relationship for that matter. Consider the employer and employee relationship to ensure the success of the company, or the internal relationship: the mind and spirit. The Bible talks about a double minded man being unstable in His ways and to guard your heart because from it flows the issues of the life.
Whatever the partnership, the goal should be the same: to succeed. United we stand, no division so we don't fall.
